DON’T LOOK AWAY…STAND UP!

Much of the GOP's core base IS the basket of deplorables and they LOVE Trump's hate rallies. 

We will never win over the basket...not in totality.  Maybe, eventually, some will peel away.  This base has been cultivated and nurtured and LIED to since Lee Atwater, working for Reagan, crafted his "Southern Strategy" to win over Southern Democrats for the GOP. It is literally NOT just Trump.

I remember the ugliness and TERROR of the days before the Civil Rights bills were passed...and just afterwards and I do NOT want to go back.  Goodman, Schwerner and Chaney were lynched as they went to register voters in the south. Goodman and Schwerner were counselors at my childhood camp, Camp Kinderland. Chaney was their college friend.  

The laws survived the violence, terror AND SCOTUS challenges.  Finally, many of the active haters receded into the background.  There were still a few UGLY Nazi / KKK marches.  Remember the one in Skokie???  But, those shows of brazen fiery hate were few and far between. 

Then, Trump's campaign and elevation to the White House resurrected the HATE and RACISM of the Know Nothings of the 1920's.  Incidents of hate, violence, and vandalism are on the rise by triple digits.  Worshipers at a Mosque, Synagogue, and a Black church were massacred by White Supremacists who were well armed by the GOP.   The Department of Homeland Security named White Supremacy a Domestic Terrorist Threat....And, still not a peep from Trump OR the GOP.  NO, there are NOT "good people on BOTH sides" as Trump declared after Charlottesville, as he winked and nodded at the HATERS and their HATE!  Is it really a coincidence that now, some hate marchers are foregoing their hoods and proudly parading their HATE??

As a Jew, I say remember that the Holocaust did NOT start with ovens and gas chambers.  It started with HATE. NOT every German was a baby killer but, too many simply looked away!   A growing number of far-right groups deny the Holocaust, and this should scare us all.

DON'T BE A BY-STANDER!  BE AN UP-STANDER!!!   DENOUNCE THE HATERS AND THEIR HATE SO WE CAN LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE "NEVER AGAIN" REALLY MEANS NEVER AGAIN!  We will work until NEVER AGAIN means NEVER AGAIN FOR EVERYONE!!
