A STUDENT'S PERSPECTIVE: ELECTING DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS PEOPLE MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER!

STUDENT'S PERSPECTIVE: ELECTING DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS PEOPLE MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER!
By Marc Maritz, Senior at Hinsdale Central High School

The polarization of American politics has been the worst it has ever been after reconstruction. New issues such as climate change, impeachment, or school shootings are in the news every day. These issues are important for older generations who will live through some of them, but they will affect young people, such as myself, for all of our adult lives. To fix these issues we need to make people aware of them. Young activists like Greta Thunberg have made people pay more attention to important issues. But this is not enough.

Change starts at the level of the voter. The most change will come when we make lawmakers exercise the will of the people. This all starts with the continued election of Democratic Congress people. If you want to make an immediate impact on these issues and help the next generation, the easiest and most important thing that you can do is vote for young Democrats who can make a difference. With a shift of power to Democrats in the National or State House of Representatives, important change can happen.

The importance of Congress People is especially important to their constituents. If you want to be represented in this large nation, you must elect people who will make the change that you need. I know that I will vote and continue to advocate for new Democrats, and I implore you to do so as well. I want you to think about the next generation and make sure that continued progress happens, not only because you did your civic duty and voted, but because you also continued to advocate for new Democratic Congress People.
