SUPPORT
OUR CANDIDTES – HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
By Chris

The
holidays are soon upon us and with this snowy weather it feels as if we are
already in December. This may seem like a good time to take a break from
political action and cuddle up at home. While we all need to take some extra
time to relax with family and friends this holiday season, the holidays also
present some special opportunities to support our candidates and the Democratic
Party.
Petition
season is winding down, but there is still time to collect signatures for your
favorite candidates. If you are a Precinct Committeeperson (PC), or you are
willing to be a PC, you still have time to get your PC petition done and turn
it in to Sue in the office. You only need 10 signatures to get on the primary
ballot as a Precinct Committeeperson.
Petition filing takes place between November 25 and December 2. We will
collect petitions in our office, file PC petitions for you, and distribute
candidate petitions to the candidates.
While you
are gathering friends and neighbors together for holiday cheer, think about
inviting a candidate or two to meet with potential voters. This is especially
important for our local candidates. It is so important that we support
Democratic candidates up and down the ballot.
Both the
Downers Grove Township Democrats and the Democratic Party of DuPage County will
be having holiday parties. The DGTDO party will be at Emmett’s in Downers Grove
on December 9 from 6:30 to 8:30, featuring hot appetizers, a cash bar, and lots
of Democrats to socialize with. There is no charge for this party, but
donations will be accepted. Be sure to respond to the email invitation or email
Chris at CHotchkin@sbcglobal.net to RSVP so we can give
Emmett’s a count. The Democratic Party of DuPage County will hold their annual
Holiday Party on December 6 starting at 6:00 at Abbington Banquets in Glen
Ellyn. Tickets are $65, but just $50 if you are a member. Go to
secure.actblue.com/donate/dpdcholiday2019 to purchase tickets.
The Iowa Caucuses
are quickly approaching on February 3. Guess which state is right next to Iowa?
Ours! If you are enthusiastic about a presidential candidate, you could contact
their campaign and offer to spend a day in Iowa for them. This will be even
more fun if you have a few friends to go with you. Bundle up and road trip to
Iowa!
If you
are snowed in during the winter months, remember that contacting your
representatives by phone is very important political action. The phone numbers
of all representatives are included in this newsletter. Call about impeachment,
call about climate change, call about gun safety, call local office holders
about local issues. Download an app on your phone “5 Calls” that will make it
easy to make 5 important calls each day.
And of
course, when you are writing those end-of-year donation checks, consider
sending a check to a candidate or to our DGTDO Office Fund.
Happy
Holidays and here’s to a 2020 filled with Democratic victories!
