DuPAGE REPUBLICANS BACK TRUMP AND OTHER DESTRUCTION

1) DuPage Republicans’
official endorsement of Trump: (Aug 28)

“Last night President Donald J Trump officially
accepted the nomination of the Republican Party for president of the United
States of America. We look forward to
supporting his re-election and continued good governance for our country under
strong Republican leadership.”

Democratic Party of DuPage County response:
“So, it is clear, the local Republican
Party is the Party of Trump. They are
not concerned about Trump’s egregious rhetoric or policies, they are not
concerned about his unpatriotic and criminal activites, they are not concerned
about his failed leadership when it comes to keeping your health and your
livelihood safe. We see what “strong
Republican leadership” has brought us – the American people deserve better.”
2) Trump’s Payroll Tax
Deferment Debacle – A “Holiday” where you have to give back the gifts!

On August 8 President Trump ordered the
Treasury Dept to allow employers to stop withholding the employee 6.2 % payroll
tax that represents the employee’s share of Social Security taxes for the
period Sept 1, 2020 and ending Dec 31, 2020. But since this is a deferment, not
a tax cut, these deferred taxes must be repaid between Jan 1, 2021 and April 30,
2021 and employers are allowed to withhold the extra deferred amount from
employee paychecks. Needless to say,
there has been strong opposition to a “Payroll Tax Holiday” that imposes
“serious hardships on employees who will face a large tax bill as a result of
deferral” – US Chamber of Commerce.

How could this affect the Social Security
Fund? Assuming the deferred taxes are
repaid in early 2021, there would be no threat to Social Security. However, Trump has indicated that if
re-elected he plans to “forgive these (deferred) taxes and terminate the
payroll tax.” This would turn a tax
deferral into a tax cut which would require an act of Congress. If passed, there could be a threat to Social
Security – the key question is whether Congress would include language that
reimburses the Social Security Trust Fund from general government revenue.
3) Is Trump’s new post office
chief trying to rig the election?

Since taking office in June, Louis DeJoy has
executed sweeping changes at the struggling USPS, leading to delays in mail
delivery - and fears mail-in ballots
won’t arrive on time. From a postal worker in Massachusetts: “This kind of delay of service is voter
suppression, plain and simple. Not a single person in my station of around 50
employees believes this is anything other than sabotage, and that includes
supporters of the president.”

Democratic
lawmakers have called for DeJoy’s resignation and have launched a series of
investigations into his conduct, past and present. In addition, as part of the Heroes Act,
Democrats have allocated up to $25B for the USPS but the Senate has blocked the
bill.
