VOTE BY MAIL – LIES AND THE TRUTH!
By Joanna Williams
Lie #1: Trump: “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not
Absentee Voting which is good) 2020 will be the most INACCURATE &
FRAUDULENT Election in history. There is NO WAY (ZERO!) that Mail-In Ballots
will be anything less than substantially fraudulent.”
Truth #1: Absentee
Voting is essentially the same as Mail-In Voting and Vote By Mail fraud is a
myth! There is no evidence that Vote By
Mail results in rampant voter fraud nor that election officials lack the
knowledge about how to protect against abuses.
In fact, over the past 20 years more than 250 million ballots have been
cast by mail nationwide while there have been just 143 criminal convictions for
election fraud related to mail ballots. That averages out to about one case per
state every six or seven years, or a fraud rate of 0.00006%.
Lie #2: Attorney General Bill Barr commenting on the
possibility of a foreign operation to mail in fake ballots: “There are a number of foreign countries that
could easily make counterfeit ballots, put names on them, send them in.”
Truth #2:
Election officials in multiple states said it would be virtually impossible for
a foreign government to achieve what Barr described. States use a variety of safeguards to confirm
validity of mail ballots. In about half
the states, ballots bear a tracking bar code unique to each voter. About 15
states require signatures to be matched against voter registration. Ballots are
rejected if they are not sent in regulation envelopes that vary widely from
state to state in format, size and paper stock.
“There isn’t an election official in this country that doesn’t know how many
ballots they’ve mailed out, how many they’ve gotten back in, and who they were
sent to. It is absolutely not the case that someone could create a multitude of
ballots and in some way infuse them or inject them into the system without
detection.”
Lie #3: Trump floated the idea to “delay” the
November election as he made unsubstantiated allegations that increased mail in
voting will result in fraud.
Truth #3: Trump has no authority to delay an
election, and the Constitution gives Congress the power to set the date for
voting. Lawmakers from both parties said almost immediately there was no
likelihood the election would be delayed and even some of Trump's allies said
his message reflected the desperate flailing of a badly losing candidate.
