DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION UPDATE – UNITING AMERICA!

Can
you believe it? We’ve been waiting all
year for the convention and now it’s happening next week! Of course, the big news is Biden’s pick for
VP. His choice is the final piece in the
convention puzzle. Kamala Harris will be
a strong addition to the ticket. I’ve
heard nothing but enthusiasm about her – she’s tough, principled and
experienced. As for the convention, I’ve
found the latest updates to events for the Illinois delegation on the new DPI
website. Keep in mind that the daily
caucus meetings will not be live streamed or telecast. But here are all the other events you can
access:
Each
day of the convention the Illinois delegation will participate in virtual
caucus and council meetings from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The full delegation will
gather for the following events before national DNC programming begins at 8
p.m. The Democratic Party of Illinois will also maintain an open Zoom channel
each night from 8 – 10 p.m. for the delegation and other Illinois Democrats to
watch the national convention programming together. All events will be
livestreamed on www.blueroomstream.com.
The
Illinois delegation DNC program:
- Sunday,
Aug. 16 – Welcome Reception 4:30 – 6 p.m. *Open to Illinois delegates and
sponsors only (not available on BlueRoomStream)
- Monday,
Aug. 17 – Lifting up the American Worker 6:30 – 8 p.m.
- Tuesday,
Aug. 18 – Illinois Women Leaders. Women’s Rights. 6:30 – 8 p.m.
- Wednesday,
Aug. 19 –Fighting for Economic and Racial Justice 6:30 – 8 p.m. *Roll call
of the states (TBD)
- Thursday,
Aug. 20 – This is it. 2020 Call to Action. 6:30 – 8 p.m.
I’m
sure you will all want to be “in the room where it happens” every day of the
event. The 8 to10pm times will be filled
by great speeches, voting on the platform and Democratic policy. Space doesn’t allow me to name all the
speakers each night, but they range from working people sharing their struggles
with COVID 19 to senators including Bernie Sanders and Amy Klobuchar, heroes
including Michelle Obama and former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack
Obama. Check the DNC Convention website,
www.demconvention.com
for full list and times of speeches.
Highlights will of course be the acceptance speeches – Wednesday night
with Kamala Harris and Thursday with Joe Biden.
Even
though we’ll be there virtually, we can still feel the spirit and accept the
CALL TO ACTION! Now the real work
begins!
