Hair on Fire - What is the state of our Democracy in these days of Trump ... and the new GOP?

Hair on Fire - What is the state of our Democracy in these days of Trump ... and the new GOP?
By Carla Feinkind
Trump is out of control. He attacks politicians who question his actions, the PRESS, and our intelligence agencies. He's highly sensitive about Mueller's investigation into Russian interference, tweeting on July 29, 2018, "There is No Collusion! The Robert Mueller Rigged Witch Hunt, headed now by 17 (increased from 13, including an Obama White House lawyer) Angry Democrats, was started by a fraudulent Dossier, paid for by Crooked Hillary and the DNC. Therefore, the Witch Hunt is an illegal Scam!"
There are problems with this so-called argument – beyond the insufferable grammar, paranoia and conspiracy theories. THIRTY-TWO people, four of whom are directly connected to Trump, have already pled guilty or been indicted. We know that the FBI told Trump about the proven Russian interference in January, 2016.
We also know Russian money was funneled into GOP campaigns and political groups, including the NRA, which heavily funded GOP candidates. To be clear, Russia does not care about gun profits. They care about sowing discord and seating Republicans who will look away out of self interest and to protect Trump who is effectively enacting the GOP social and business agenda.
We know the GOP purged likely Democratic voters from voter rolls and left minority votes uncounted in some Democratic areas.  More and more White Pride Republican candidates run, and some win.  This energizes the GOP's "base" that wants America White, Christian, and straight again.
Internationally, Trump's actions have been just as destabilizing.  When he pulled out of the Iranian nuclear deal and the Paris climate treaty, it looked like Trump was just being an America First disruptor. Then, we watched as Trump assaulted alliances at NATO and the G7 Summit, and his comments trying to undermine the EU. These alliances have been bulwarks against Russian aggression for 70 years. Next stop was a meeting in Helsinki with Putin … alone! And this was directly after Trump had been briefed by the FBI that 12 Russian officers were indicted for hacking the election.  Even Illinois' election rolls were hacked.
At the joint news conference following their private meeting, Putin said that "yes," he had wanted Trump to win and had helped!  Then, Trump said he believed Putin had not hacked our cyber space because Putin told him so … and he was "very convincing." But, of course, Putin knew because Russian officers would never act without direct orders from Putin
The national (and international) furor over that "performance" forced Trump to walk things back a bit just one day later. He claimed a grammatical error was the problem.  It was an abhorrent, transparent lie but, the GOP quickly moved on, even voting down legislation to fund state efforts to protect elections and increase money for cyber security.
Putin has long felt that Russia was diminished in terms of power and world influence. Is all of this chaos part of Putin's plan? Is there a grander underlying scheme to first divide America with hate and then to weaken our institutions and alliances?
Is the GOP unwittingly helping Russia subvert our economy, divide us and weaken international alliances against Russia aggression?
We MUST not look away.
What can we do against these internal and external attacks?
BUILD THE BIG BLUE WAVE!
